Over the past few weeks, a colony of over one hundred colourful bees have swarmed across the Manchester region, landing on the city’s streets, parks and public spaces. These bee sculptures are part of a mass scale public art sculpture trail by Wild In Art and Manchester City Council called Bee in the City. The event aims to encourage members of the public to explore the city of Manchester this summer and will be around until 23 September.

The Henry Boot Group are proud to ‘bee’ a part of this spectacular exhibition by sponsoring the Colourful Manchester Skyline Bee, located in St Ann’s Square and painted by Meha Hindocha. The design incorporates aspects of the city’s architecture, music scene, street art, sporting background, sculptures and industrial past, along with the individuals that make the city. The bee even includes some of Henry Boot’s projects in the region, including The Courthouse, Equitable Building, the Piccadilly Gardens fountains and Kampus.

Once the exhibition has finished all the bees will be auctioned off on 17 October to raise money for the We Love MCR Charity.

Bee in the City Sponsors Challenge

Keen to show our support, on 2 August a Henry Boot team participated in the Bee in the City Sponsor Challenge, hosted by Manchester Central. Competing with 35 other sponsors, the team had to take a selfie with as many bees as possible in two hours and six minutes. Teams could travel around the city in any way they wanted, whether on foot, bike or by hopping on the tram.

The Henry Boot team included Kelly Faulkner and Benjamin Tonkinson from Henry Boot Construction, Caroline Hines and Amy Thorburn Walker from Henry Boot Developments and Sam Payne from Hallam Land Management, who all managed to visit 36 bees in total.

The event was a huge success, raising over £2,000 for the We Love MCR Charity.
