Sheffield school visits Henry Boot as part of The Young Professionals Challenge – 19/03/2018

Sheffield Girls High at Banner Cross HallStudents presenting to board of directors

On 27 February, Sheffield High School for Girls visited Banner Cross Hall as part of their work towards The Young Professionals Challenge. As part of the challenge, students spend a day working in a professional field to gain an insight about specific industries and learn transferable skills. The students were tasked with devising strategies to help the Henry Boot Group recruit more women into construction.

Initially, a panel of directors and senior managers from the Henry Boot Group gave presentations on different areas of the business. Employment and Skills Manager Adeana Raper opened the presentations, followed by Chief Executive Officer John Sutcliffe who discussed the newly launched ‘One Henry Boot’ campaign. Directors and senior managers from Banner Plant and Henry Boot Developments introduced their company and discussed their career opportunities.

The students then had two hours to think of ideas before presenting these to the panel. Many innovative ideas were discussed and all students approached the challenge with enthusiasm and professionalism.

Later this year, the students will visit a live construction site to gain practical experience of a development project.

“I wanted to say a huge thank you for yesterday. The girls were absolutely buzzing when they left and it has been a real revelation to spend the day with you all. We really are so grateful to you for your time, and for facilitating this, and are really looking forward to working with you again in the future.”
