Henry Boot Constructions’ Ben Pearson supports Leeds UTC (University Technical College) Live Enterprise Challenge – 19/09/17

Ben Pearson Trainee Quantity Surveyor at Henry Boot volunteered to take part in the Master Planning Challenge at Leeds UTC on the 19 September 2017.

The activity was arranged by Ahead Partnership, a not-for-profit business that creates links between businesses, schools and community groups to allow businesses of all sizes to play a hands-on-role in their local community.

The Master Planning Challenge was part-funded by the European Social Fund and was an event for year 10 students who are looking to pursue a career in the construction industry.

Ben and the other volunteers took part in workshops with the students mentoring and explaining the different roles and activities within the construction industry.

Following the workshops, the students were split into teams, each team was set a task to plan a building design for the South Bank in Leeds, using what they had learned in the workshops, researching what may be required and asking the mentors for help.

The teams then presented their design to a panel of mentors who acted as judges to judge and pick out the winning design.

“The event was a great opportunity to explain how many roles there are in construction and what skills are required. Hopefully inspiring the next generation of construction workers.”
