Henry Boot Construction have been awarded the contract to transform the historic St George’s Concert Hall in Bradford for Bradford Metropolitan Borough Council.

The Grade II listed building, located on Bridge Street in the heart of the City, first opened its doors on 29 August 1853 and is one of the oldest concert halls still in use in the UK.

We are tasked with delivering a full refurbishment of the auditorium and front of house areas, as well as carrying out much needed external improvements and repairs.  Internally, we will refurbish the auditorium seating, raise the circle and upper gallery seating levels and remove and replace the existing stage. Externally, our work will focus on extensive stone repairs and replacement of the slate roof and timber windows.

Since being awarded the contract, we have been busy on site and recently hosted a “Behind the Scenes” event offering a glimpse to local Councillors how much has already been done and, explain the renovation and modernisation plans for the Concert Hall.

It is expected that the entire project will be completed by the end of 2018.

“St George’s Hall is a pre-eminent heritage building for Bradford district and this restoration will ensure that it will be brought up to standard as a top class venue for all our residents and visitors to enjoy for decades to come.  No significant refurbishment work has been carried out on the building since 1983 so I am looking forward to seeing it restored to its former glory”

Susan Hinchcliffe, Council leader, City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council
