The sixth annual Proud of Barnsley Awards took place on 17th November 2017 with Henry Boot Construction supporting the Charity Fundraising Team Award for the second year running.

The hosts, Radio DJ Stephanie Hirst and former BBC Look North presenter Christa Ackroyd introduced each category, with Henry Boot Construction’s Operations Director Tony Shaw presenting the award to the winners. Project Director Ryan O’Loughlin also attended the event, which celebrates the people who help make Barnsley a great place to live, work and visit.

The Charity Fundraising Team Award went to The Wombwell Dragons, a group of bikers who began in 1965 and who have recently reformed. They raise money for Newsome Avenue Children’s Home which is used as a respite for children in need. They recently gave over £1,500 towards the home’s mini bus appeal. The judges said, “They may look tough in their leather gear but members of the Wombwell Dragons Motorcycle Club have proved they’re big softies at heart with another excellent year of fundraising.”

“It was great to be involved in such a fantastic night that recognises some outstanding achievements. It is also a pertinent reminder about what a great town we live in and the wonderful people that we share it with.”
