The grand opening of the brand new Market Parade took place on Saturday 11 March and the event was a resounding success.

Market Parade, located in what used to be a semi open market contains 73 stalls and four cafes. It is the latest step of the Better Barnsley redevelopment, a huge project to bring improvements to the town centre.

The Worshipful the Mayor of Barnsley, Councillor Linda Burgess, cut the ribbon and Tony Shaw, Operations Director at Henry Boot Construction rang the famous market bell, declaring the market open to the public.

Thousands of shoppers enjoyed an array of street entertainment and special offers to mark the momentous occassion. The opening marks the relocation of businesses from the existing Market Hall in the Metropolitan Centre refurbishment.

Market Parade is the third project completed by Henry Boot Construction on the Better Barnsley redevelopment having already handed over Market Gate Car Park and May Day Green Market. Works are also underway on the New Library and Metropolitan Centre redevelopment.

"Thank you to Henry Boot Construction for your hard work and being such an amazing team working with us on Market Parade."

Anne Unitsz, Group Leader at the Markets and Town Centre

"The day was a great success and really well organised. These are exciting times for the people of Barnsley and Henry Boot Construction are proud to be a part of it."
