Henry Boot Construction chosen as ICE Yorkshire and Humber Bailey Bridge logistics partners 19/01/17

Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)Josie Rothera and the Henry Boot Construction team build the Bailey Bridge

Henry Boot Construction have been selected as logistics partner for the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Yorkshire and Humber Bailey Bridge, teaming up with ICE's Regional Education Team to deliver the project.

The project, originally designed by a group of young apprentices at Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, and has been used successfully for ten years. It has received positive feedback from students, teachers and ICE Ambassadors, offering a hands on experience of civil engineering.

"The ICE Yorkshire and Humber Regional Education Team are thrilled that Henry Boot Construction have become our logistics partner for the Bailey Bridge in 2016/17. This scale model of the orginal Bailey Bridge, designed by Donald Bailey from Rotherham in World War II, will be used at school and national events to enthuse young people about a career in civil engineering."

Josie Rothera, ICE Regional Education Coordinator and Ambassador for the Institution of Civil Engineers

A team made up of Henry Boot Construction employees will be organising school visits, showing students how to create the Bailey Bridge and give them an insight into civil engineering. This is also an opportunity for trainees at Henry Boot Construction to become ICE Ambassadors, sharing their knowledge of civil engineering with the students.

"I am very much looking forward to getting the model Bailey Bridge out into local schools and promoting civil engineering and Henry Boot Construction. This is a great project because it has an eye on the past and our local engineering heritage and an eye on the future, trying and encourage the next generation into construction and civil engineering."
