Fir Vale SchoolFir Vale visit the Skills Village

Students from Fir Vale Academy were recently given the opportunity to visit the Skills Village in Barnsley for a taster session.

The taster session included students attending workshops specifically on the Better Barnsley scheme and careers in construction and Health and Safety.

Fir Vale Academy is part of the Made in Sheffield programme, designed for young people at school to develop the skills, character and industry knowledge required for the world of work in the 21st century. Visiting the Skills Village gave the pupils the opportunity to experience what is it like on a live construction site.

"The school feels that work experience is very important as it provides our students with a real insight into the world of work. Also, it presents them with a first-hand opportunity to understand the skills they need to work with adults and as a member of a team."

Claudia Clarke, Year 10 Student Support Officer & Made in Sheffield Project Leader at Fir Vale Academy
