Marlene Gioia, an MBA student currently studying at Sheffield Hallam University, has recently completed a two week placement with Henry Boot Construction as part of her course. Having nearly completed her MBA, Marlene came to Henry Boot on 12 September 2016 to gain experience working with the pre-contracts team before submitting her dissertation and attending her final lectures, with a view to moving into to a permanent position within a Sheffield firm.

Describing her time with the company, Marlene said: “During my two weeks with Henry Boot Construction, I have worked towards identifying and recommending ways to improve their process of qualitative data collection for use in CV preparation. Working with the Tenders Team, I have initiated the framework for an evolving database to using in storing data about key individuals. To that end, I began the process of interviewing HBC staff to update any missing data.

“In my first exposure to working with an English firm, Henry Boot Construction has given me the confidence that my American work experience and skills are cross-culturally transferrable.

“Thank you again for the opportunity to experience working for a firm simultaneously rich in tradition and embracing forward thinking change. Henry Boot exemplifies the best in what you expect working for a family business would be.”

“Marlene has been a real asset to the pre-construction team over the past two weeks. She has tackled a project focussed on the creation of a bank of bid collateral, and has been interviewing Henry Boot Construction staff in order to update our people CVs for use in tenders. We wish Marlene all the best in her future endeavours.”
