A team of Henry Boot Construction employees participated in the annual Turner & Townsend Football Tournament on Thursday 22 September.

The third annual Turner & Townsend 5 a-side football tournament was held at the newly opened St George’s Park in Sheffield, one of the first Football Association Park Life projects opened in the country. Altogether 19 teams took part in the tournament from the construction industry including representation from Leeds, Nottingham and Newcastle as well as a strong representation of local businesses and a mix of developers, consultants and contractor organisations. Over £1300 was raised for charity with donations going to Rotherham Hospice and St Luke’s Hospice.

The Henry Boot team included Director Tony Shaw, Richard Tingle, Adam Houlston, Dean Cowling, George Talbot, Carl Jeffrey and Mick Tomlinson. The tournament consisted of four groups, with the top two teams in each group going on to qualify for the Quarter Finals, with a knock out round leading to the semi-finals and the final. The Henry Boot team played really well, narrowly missing out on qualification to the next round, placing third out of the five teams in their group.

Overall, the competition was as keenly fought as ever, with NG Bailey retaining their crown with a hard fought 2-0 win over Enzygo Enivronmental Consultants in the final.

Robert Hughes, Associate Director at Turner & Townsend, said “The day was once again a fantastic success and to be the first tournament held on the new superb facilities at St George’s Park is an added bonus. Every year the tournament has grown which means the charitable contribution continues to go up and it’s great to have the support of companies like Henry Boot Construction.”

Richard Tingle, Project Quantity Surveyor at Henry Boot Construction said, “We are always pleased to support local charities by participating in events like this. We were unlucky to miss out on qualification to the next round, but the team played well and we enjoyed playing against various consultants and competitors who we work alongside within the industry.”
