University of Huddersfield over roof project successfully delivered – 02/11/16

University of HuddersfieldUniversity of Huddersfield Over Roof Project

The project to construct a new roof over the Bronte Lecture Theatres for the University of Huddersfield is now complete. Completion was achieved on schedule, with handover on 30 September 2016.

The works included removing a chiller unit from the roof, making alterations to an existing chiller and supplying a new one. A steel frame was then constructed on top of the existing steelwork, to accept a barrel vault standing seam roof. The connections on the parapet were exposed by cutting out four sections through a concrete slab. Finally, Louvres were fitted to the three exposed sides of the roof and these formed an escape door which leads to an escape hatch cut through the concrete slab and out to the stair head.

“Henry Boot engaged pro-actively with the University around a sensitive site to ensure a quality solution was achieved, whilst ensuring no disruption during our important graduation period.”

Paul Turner, Campus Development Project Manager, University of Huddersfield

“The success of the project was down to having a good working relationship with the client. This was an interesting project which was completed on time and we look forward to working with the University of Huddersfield team again in the future.”
