Henry Boot Construction Limited welcomes apprentices Thomas Houghton and Aliesha Hill onto site via Barnsley Community Build.

Aliesha and Thomas are both currently studying an 18 month apprenticeship in multi-trades at Moorlands College in Barnsley.

After leaving school at 16, Aliesha initially chose to study hairdressing at Barnsley College but earlier this year decided upon a change in career to the Construction industry. She is currently working on the refurbishment of the new Market Parade market, working alongside the decorators who are in the process of transforming the former semi-open market. She is very much enjoying learning new skills and intends to use these at home later this year when she refurbishes her flat. She is going to be able to redecorate, plaster and do her own joinery work.

Thomas Houghton is 20 years old and began his apprenticeship last January. He has spent fifty percent of his time in the classroom and the remainder has been on site in Goldthorpe, working on a scheme which involves the refurbishment of properties for the affordable rents scheme. He now has experience of plastering, damp proofing and decorating and is hopeful that once he has completed his apprenticeship he will find full time employment.  This is Thomas’ second apprenticeship as he completed his first on the railways. He found the vacancy on the We are Barnsley website and was delighted to be chosen to help on the new market.

Thomas said “I am enjoying working for Henry Boot Construction Ltd. I enjoy painting, both on residential and commercial properties. I have been mixing paint, doing the cutting in and have learnt how to build tower scaffold”.

The Site Manager, Rob Barkworth from Henry Boot Construction commented “Thomas was more than happy to help with any jobs which he was given. It is a pleasure to meet someone who is prepared to come on to site so early in the morning to get the job finished when required. I would have no hesitation in recommending him to future employers”.
