Henry Boot Construction is pleased to have been successful in securing the contract to redevelop Barnsley Town Centre for Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council.  The scheme, known as “Better Barnsley”, is worth approximately £35 million and will commence later this year with a series of work packages delivered over the next three years.

The works include the construction of retail, leisure and market space with areas for food and drink.  A new library and new landscaped public open space including a market square will be created following the demolition of existing buildings.

The Metropolitan Centre will also be extensively refurbished and extended to create a significantly improved presence for the markets in the heart of the town.

“This is a major milestone in our exciting and ambitious plans to make Barnsley town centre a place for people to visit and for businesses to invest in.”

Councillor Roy Miller, Cabinet Spokesperson for Place

“As a local contractor, we are delighted to have been appointed to construct the Better Barnsley town centre development.  This is an exciting time for the people of Barnsley and we are proud to be part of it.”

Tony Shaw, Operations Director, Henry Boot Construction

“Our success is due entirely to the hard work and diligence of our pre-construction team and I would like to place on record my thanks in securing this project.”

Simon Carr, Managing Director, Henry Boot Construction
