Henry Boot Construction colleagues took part in a charity walk on Thursday 19 May 2016 to raise money for St Wilfrid’s Centre in Sheffield.

The walk, which began from St Wilfrid’s Centre and led to Meersbrook, included colleagues visiting local businesses throughout Abbey Dale Road and Queens Road. As part of the fundraising, Andrew Rushton, Project Planner at Henry Boot Construction, dressed as St Wilfrid’s bear to promote the charity and to help get people more involved.

St Wilfrid’s is a day centre which is open to all homeless, vulnerable and socially excluded adults aged between 18 and 65 years old. St Wilfrid’s helps people build a future and learn basic life skills. The centre also organises a variety of activities, from arts and crafts to helping people with basic skills, such as reading and writing.

Henry Boot Construction have been working on building 20 self-contained flats for St Wilfrid’s, with the aim of improving the quality of life for people who are homeless. The flats will have one bedroom, with a kitchen area and bathroom facility. There will also be a communal room downstairs, which will allow residents to socialise throughout the day and where other activities can take place.

The residents will be able to live in the flat for up to two years whilst receiving extra help with obtaining qualifications, finding employment and setting up a permanent home.

Henry Boot Construction’s site team, who have been working on St Wilfrid’s Residential project, will be trekking across the three highest peaks in Yorkshire on 3 June 2016. To sponsor this great cause visit the team’s fundraising page.

“As part of our fundraising strategy for the Three Peak’s Challenge, it was really important to visit local businesses. It was a great afternoon and we had lots of interest from new sponsors.”
