Henry Boot Construction’s Adeana Raper, Employment & Skills Manager, and Lydia McGuinness, Trainee Site Manager, both attended an event at Chesterfield College on Thursday 26 May, for Women in Construction.

Adeana was asked to speak to the Group about her personal experiences, and discuss the mentoring and support that “Gateway to Construction” can offer to women in the industry, in the Sheffield City Region.

St Helena site visit

Stacey Downing, who is studying for her Level 3 Bricklaying NVQ, attended the Women in Construction event and afterwards was invited to visit the St Helena site. St Helena is an ongoing project for the University of Derby, which involves the refurbishment of a Grade II listed building dating back to 1892.

During her visit, Stacey met with Lydia McGuinness, who gave an induction and tour of the site before explaining site procedures and discussing the ongoing refurbishment work at the Grade II listed building. As her first experience visiting a construction site, Stacey thoroughly enjoyed her time at St Helena and would like to arrange other women to visit the site in the future.

“What a great group of women, most were taking a qualification in a trade. They were all truly inspirational and I have no doubt they will all be successful in their chosen career paths.”
