Made in Sheffield Ambassadors Scheme Interview – 27/04/16

Made in Sheffield Ambassadors
Adeana Raper
Go Construct

Henry Boot Construction’s Employment & Skills Manager Adeana Raper recently gave an interview in support of the Made in Sheffield Ambassadors programme.  Henry Boot Construction are one of four major construction companies that have grouped together to be part of the first Construction Sector Made in Sheffield Programme linking with the Go Construct initiative.

The scheme is structured so the students do site visits in the first year and work experience in the second year.  In-between times, they learn in school about competencies that are required behind the scenes to manage construction activity.  This way, we can offer students an insight into the range of construction activity that goes on.

By supporting this programme, there is already evidence that the scheme is opening the eyes of young people to the opportunities in construction.  Students have already said that they are now looking into construction as a career choice.

“Young people don’t understand what careers are available in construction.  There is a skill shortage looming in this industry.  It’s not just about trades, there are professional jobs and routes through college and university and this scheme gives them an understanding.”
