Archbishop of York visits Fox Valley development – 18/09/15

The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu visited the Fox Valley development earlier this month, where he blessed local community groups, business and churches as part of an open air Community Celebration.

The visit forms part of a four day historic ‘Crossroads’ mission across Sheffield Diocese involving 21 Bishops of the Church of England. Hundreds of events took place as part of the Crossroads Mission across the region in schools, pubs, universities, colleges, shopping centre, community centres, cafes and churches. With music provided by Deepcar Brass Band and the Bolsterstone Male Voice Choir.

Following the Community Celebration at Fox Valley, the Archbishop met with people from the community before joining the public finale event in All Saints Square, Rotherham.

“The Archbishop’s visit to Stocksbridge is very timely for the churches as well as the community. Cornerstone (Bolsterstone St Mary with the Christian Centre, Deepcar St Jon and the Stocksbridge St Matthias) is the Church of England part of the ecumenical Churches Together in Stocksbridge and District.

We’ve opted for an outdoor service at the new Fox Valley development which gives us a great welcoming space for all the community to come together. Rain or shine, we’re determined to spread the Good News of the Gospels.”

Revd Hilda Isaacson, Bolsterstone Church

“Everyone involved with the development is extremely honoured to welcome the Archbishop to the site at this stage in the construction when most of the buildings really are beginning to take shape. As a local company we’re proud to be a part of the community here in Stocksbridge and to be delivering this town centre regeneration scheme.”

Mark Dransfield, Managing Director, Dransfield Properties Ltd

“The visit to Stocksbridge by the Archbishop will mean a lot to our employees and the community. I know there is a great deal of interest in the Fox Valley development, on what was once part of the steelworks, and this day of celebration will help to reinforce how proud the community is of both its history and its future.”
