Streets Ahead and Henry Boot Construction are celebrating completing over 100 projects together as part of the Streets Ahead project to upgrade Sheffield’s roads, pavements, infrastructure and street lights.

At the start of this project, August 2012, Streets Ahead and Henry Boot Construction worked together on a testing laboratory and offices in Ecclesfield, redeveloping it into a new two storey open plan office space, as well as the construction of a 7,000 tonne salt barn on the same site to help with the delivery of Streets Ahead’s winter maintenance service.

Since then, the two organisations have worked many of other schemes, including the strengthening of Tinsley Canal Bridge. Through collaborative working this scheme was completed five weeks ahead of schedule, minimising disruption to the public.

Working together successfully has also resulted in recognition at a number of awards, including the ICE Yorkshire and Humber Awards in 2015. The bridge strengthening works on Oughtibridge Bridge was awarded a High Commendation and a strengthening project on Storth Lane Bridge was also awarded a Certificate of Excellence.

“The Streets Ahead project is a great project for the city that is proven to not only bring benefits to our residents but also jobs to the city. The relationship with Henry Boot Construction, who has been based in Sheffield for over 125years, is a great demonstration of how the Streets Ahead project is working with existing large and small companies across the city.”

Cllr Terry Fox, Cabinet Member for the Environment & Transport

“Reaching 100 projects is a significant milestone for both the Streets Ahead project and our partnership with Henry Boot. Over the past three years, our collaborative approach has brought together our expertise to strengthen the services we offer, something that we look forward to continuing over the length of the 25-year Streets Ahead contract.”

Graeme Symonds, Streets Ahead’s CIP Director at Amey

“Reaching these milestones is a testament to the hard work of all those involved in creating a good working relationship. Those involved have, and continue to be, committed in making the structures under the highways of Sheffield safe for many generations to come.”
