Henry Boot support local Junior PCSO Scheme in Doncaster – 27/03/15

South Yorkshire Safer Neighbourhood Teams

Henry Boot Construction have collaborated with the Safer Neighbourhood Team and South Yorkshire Police on our St Leger of Doncaster Decent Homes Framework to provide a programme of activities within the local area for 9 to 11 year olds, which will see them working together to improve the local environment through litter picking and general care of their neighbourhood.

The volunteers meet once a week, and the scheme aims to raise social awareness and teach children about the implications of their actions, specifically focusing on preventing abusive behaviour and property damage whilst respecting themselves, others and their surroundings.

Some of the activities organised include:

  • East Doncaster Development Trust in Dunscroft and the Central Childrens Centre, Henry Boot Construction hosted a session for nine children covering the dangers of building sites a talk on careers in construction and a mini tetrahedron building activity.
  • Heatherwood School, Intake, hosted twelve children with varying disabilities for a ‘dress the PCSO in PPE’ event and a tetrahedron activity with marshmallows.
  • Central children’s centre – children learned about DNA testing and fingerprinting all leaving with their own DNA samples and fingerprints.
  • Children that completed the duration of the course were awarded an ASDAN Award and granted Junior PCSO status.

“Henry Boot Construction provided funding for the scheme and because of this the children have been able to go bowling, have a Christmas party and receive prizes and Christmas presents. Usually there is a very tight budget and, due to the funding the scheme has been more special for the children and also meant that I have thoroughly enjoyed myself.”
