The Lord Mayor of Sheffield joined us earlier this month to mark the official start of construction of a new residential block for Sheffield homeless charity St Wilfrids.

Councillor Talib Hussain took part in the ground breaking ceremony for the new building which is being funded by local businesses, charitable trusts, the people of Sheffield and star of Channel 4’s ‘The Secret Millionaire’ Simrin Choudhrie.

The new residential block to be built next door to the current St Wilfrid’s day Centre will house 20 self-contained flats to support homeless people giving them accommodation overnight whilst during the day they will benefit from undertaking classes to increase their social and employability skills.

The charity needs to raise a total of £2 million to complete the residential block. To date just over £1.7 million has been donated, to support and learn more about the charity please visit St Wilfrid’s Centre.

“We look forward to working with Henry Boot Construction and am sure that they will help make our dream, for homeless people in Sheffield, come true.”

Kevin Bradley, Director, St Wilfrid’s Centre

“We were delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor to break the ground on the site and we were pleased to see good local media coverage.”
