Henry Boot Construction attend Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) Bridge to Schools initiative – 13/03/14

ICE Bridge To Schools

Rob Cundill, Assistant Engineer for Henry Boot Construction recently attended Brinsworth Comprehensive School, Brinsworth, Rotherham as part of the ‘Bridge to Schools’ initiative, introducing the pupils’ to civil engineering.

The ‘Bridge to Schools’ project was successfully launched in 2009 by the Institution of Civil Engineering.  The scheme aims to make children more aware of the work of civil engineers.

The days’ activity centred around the construction of a 12m long model of a cable-stayed bridge.  Pupils are able to build, walk across and deconstruct the bridge, learning about bridges, teamwork and civil engineering.

“Some of the pupils had a real flair and understanding of the technical perspective.  Pupils who seemed a little disinterested in the beginning, became a lot more engaged as the construction progressed.  It was an excellent day and the pupils thoroughly enjoyed the experience”
