The Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, Dr Vince Cable MP, visited Stocksbridge to see the site of the new Fox Valley development.

Dr Cable was invited to perform a ‘topping out’ ceremony this week at the new Tata Steel warehouse, which represents the first phase of the new Fox Valley development in Stocksbridge, north Sheffield.

The first phase of work is to build a new warehouse for Tata Steel, as the company currently uses part of the Fox Valley development site for steel storage.

The topping out ceremony was held on the warehouse site to mark the progress on the scheme and to celebrate the investment in a new commercial heart for Stocksbridge as well as the new Tata facilities in the town. Dr Cable marked the milestone by dropping a 6m x 4m flag down the completed steelwork of the new warehouse and welcomed the investment in this part of north Sheffield.

Fox Valley will transform a 28 acre former industrial site off Manchester Road in Stocksbridge, into a vibrant mixed use development with an adjacent housing site. The development is due to be completed early in 2016.

“I think what this development will do, amongst other things, is create new premises so that there are new facilities to be turned into businesses. It’s also bringing back development in the UK, as there’s a lack of space and lack of tailor made facilities for new companies, and this will provide it.”

Dr Vince Cable, The Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills.

“I am proud and delighted to have welcomed Dr Cable to the development site as such an important milestone in the project.  Once the warehouse has been completed later this year, we will move onto the retail and commercial site which will bring up to 900 new jobs to the area.
