Bifrangi UK’s new screw press house complete – 25/07/14

Henry Boot Construction’s Civil Engineering Division has recently completed the design and build project for Bifrangi UK’s new screw press house.

Bifrangi UK is a specialist hot-steel forging company that manufactures and supplies parts to markets in the UK and worldwide.

The multi-million pound civil engineering project included an impressive 16m x 5m deep pit that will house the enormous 70 tonne Schuler Press.  The press is unique in the UK and represents only the second of its kind in the world.

The most technically demanding part of the project was the 36 hour continuous concrete pour to complete the press block foundation. The 1200m3 pour was the culmination of many months of planning, detailed technical design and careful organisation and with thoughtful supervision went entirely as planned.  The pour was one of the largest continuous concrete pours to take place in the UK in 2014.

Immediately after handover, Bifrangi set to work on lifting the first piece of the press which on its own weighed 315T.  Bifrangi aims to have the press assembled and operational by September 2015.

Steve Green, Senior Project Manager responsible for managing the project has been nominated for the CIOB’s Construction Manager of the Year Awards 2014 for his work on this project.

Works started in October 2012 and completed in early June 2014.

“The completion of the Bifrangi project was well received by the owner Francesco Biasion. Just looking around at the sheer size, scale and complexity of the project brought home to me what our team had accomplished. We had a great team working ethic on site and we look forward to being part of future developments with Bifrangi UK at the Lincoln site.”
