Tropo Pick Up Top Award For Ground Source Heat Pump Project – 30/10/13

Sustainable Housing - 2013

Tropo, our Renewables Division, has picked up a top honour at this year’s Sustainable Housing Awards for its ground source heat pump project for Yorkshire Housing.

Taking first place in the Sustainable Smaller Housing Retrofit Project of the Year, Tropo’s ‘Warming Weaverthorpe’ entry outlined the team’s work to install ground source heat pumps for 11 rural properties in Weaverthorpe near Scarborough.

Explains Ryan O’Loughlin, managing quantity surveyor for Tropo: “Yorkshire Housing wanted a sustainable energy solution to replace the costly, solid fuel systems previously in place in the houses which are in an off-gas area.
“When the homes were deemed viable for ground source heat pumps, we designed a system to improve warmth levels and minimise the environmental impact of each home.
“We completed the installation, on time and on budget, in nine weeks and the new system immediately proved to be warmer and more efficient with one resident stating that it is “excellent and has made a big difference to our family.” Residents are now saving up to £60 a month on their heating bills.”

“This is the second time we have contracted Tropo to install ground source heat pumps for us and it has proved to be as successful as the first. Tropo are helping us to cut energy bills for our residents and take the lead in creating environmentally responsible properties, we’re delighted that the Weaverthorpe project won this prestigious award.”
