‘Build Codnor Live’ – Building Information Modelling Pilot Project – 29/11/13

Build Codnor

The Henry Boot Construction BIM Task Force recently carried out a live trial exercise, ‘Build Codnor live’, to assess our BIM capabilities.

Led by our BIM Champion, Kevin Dight, the trial took place over two days and involved a group of ten people from a variety of disciplines in the business to test and dummy run the BIM process on a real project, in real time.

A whole new experience for many on the project, we identified that we are on the right track and at a suitable point on the wedge of BIMness to make sure that we beat the government target of all its suppliers being BIM Level 2 by 2016.

Supported by the National Federation of Builders, our project is one of the current 12 exemplar BIM projects across the country and we are working on a detailed case study. It represents the start of our BIM journey and the group will be moving several projects and initiatives forward in 2014.

“The adoption and integration of BIM techniques are crucial to stay ahead of the game.  Our investment in BIM will enable our clients, designers and construction teams to better understand the behaviour of a building before construction begins and throughout a projects lifecycle.  The ‘Build Codnor Live’ project provided us with a greater understanding of where we think BIM will add value and its application across the entire business.”
