A&E refurbishment

Henry Boot Construction’s Eastern Division has just handed over the first phase of the Accident and Emergency Expansion programme at Northern General Hospital in Sheffield, on time and with zero defects.

The former CSSD (Clinical Sterile Services Department) was completely remodelled to provide office and staff changing accommodation, allowing consultants and key nursing staff to move from their existing location in Accident and Emergency Department prior to the remodelling of the Clinical Decisions Unit (CDU).

HBC started CSSD Phase 1A in early August and handed over the project at the end of November – the site team is currently on a four-week stand down period, after which we take possession of Phase 1B - remodelling in an area that is currently in occupation by the Pharmacy Store.

Works on the CDU project started this Monday, with works due to complete in early May 2013 - delivering much needed additional bed space within the department.

Both the CSSD and CDU projects form part of the overall A&E expansion programme at Northern General Hospital, and were secured under the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust framework.

Previous schemes on the framework have included the multi-million pound Critical Care Unit at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, the Central Processing Unit at Northern General Hospital and six other ward refurbishments across the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust estates.

“We are pleased to announce the successful completion of the first phase of the A&E expansion programme at Northern General Hospital.
The site team worked hard to ensure the project was handed over on time and with zero defects, and we look forward to delivering the remaining phases to the complete satisfaction of our valued repeat-business client.”
