Henry Boot Construction’s Managing Director has been appointed to the Board of the Sheffield City Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) - one of the first to be recognised in the country.

Simon Carr, 52, takes up one of the six private-sector board places available and is the only member to represent the construction industry in our region.

The private sector members join civic leaders and the Vice Chancellor of Sheffield Hallam University to form the LEP board, which is tasked with stimulating growth and attracting development to the region.

The first board meeting was held just before Christmas, and marked the start of a new way of working for the city region.

Their first key task will be to communicate the aims and plans of the LEP with the private sector and to establish a way in which the wider business community can input into the future economic growth of the region in alongside and in partnership with the public sector.

“I am delighted to be part of one of the first LEPs to be formed, which will allow me to drive the strategic development aims for the economy of the Sheffield City region.
"All sectors will benefit from this initiative by working collaboratively through both public and private partnerships, which will generate growth and create additional employment in the region.
"The localism agenda will play a prominent role with the private sector having an influence on public spending in the region.”
