Shirecliffe First Handovers – 29/11/10

The first keys have been handed over on the Shirecliffe new homes development – with Henry Boot Construction delivering the first new council housing in Sheffield for over 20 years.

The 27 environmentally-friendly properties include photovoltaic roof panels and achieve the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 standard - Sheffield Homes will now look for tenants for the properties.

The scheme is designed to integrate a small number of new build properties within the existing council estate, to improve the whole community for a lot less than renovating the whole estate.

Both Henry Boot Construction and the Architect, Stephenson Bell, were chosen in a local competition involving Sheffield City Council and local residents, and the project won a prestigious design award earlier in the year.

“I’m delighted we have reached this stage so quickly. It is a testament to the council’s partnership with the local community, the architects and developers.”

Councillor Penny Baker, Sheffield City Council
