Henry Boot Construction teamed up with IBI, Mott MacDonald and NPS to organise a competition for schools in Barnsley, asking students to design a poster that celebrates cycling in Barnsley and to describe why they would like to win a new bike.

Congratulations to 6 year old George Skidmore, 10 year old Evie Archer-Moxon, 10 year old Jessica Power, and 10 year old Kathryn Rushforth, who have created beautiful artwork. The winners will each receive a new bike and their posters will be displayed on The Glass Works site hoardings in the town centre, so look out for their drawings appearing on Kendray Street soon.

Communications Officer Catherine Spooner said, “Thank you to all the children who entered our Cycling in Barnsley Competition. We received some fantastic colourful entries which I can’t wait to see on the hoardings once printed. The children had grasped the theme well and many of the designs were very well thought out. The panel of judges also considered the reasons the children gave for wanting a new bike. These were wonderfully varied, from wishing to do a sponsored bike ride or training to enter the Tour de Yorkshire one day themselves, to wishing to donate their existing bike to someone who doesn’t have one. It’s going to be great fun taking the winners shopping and I can’t wait to see their reactions when the posters are unveiled on the hoardings.”

This year, The Tour De Yorkshire will pass through Barnsley on Friday 4 May during the second stage of the race. The riders will start outside Barnsley Town Hall and endure the 149km ride to Ilkley, passing through famous landmarks along the way, including Oaks Viaduct and Hartcliff Folly.
