We aim to challenge and inform our clients to achieve the best possible environmental outcomes for their projects.
As part of the 2016 to 2020 Sustainable Business Plan, we work hard to improve our environmental results year on year, across the following areas:
Protecting natural resources
We have committed to increasing our use of sustainable materials to minimise our impact on the environment. By signing up to the Business in the Community’s (BiTC) ‘Waste to Wealth’ Campaign, we have joined other high-profile organisations in committing to collectively double the nation’s resource productivity and reduce avoidable waste by 2030.
Wherever possible, we re-use and recycle materials and identify ways to minimise the procurement of raw materials. Many of our initiatives also help protect the environment and encourage biodiversity, with protection measures identified through an Environmental Impact Assessment on each project. Many of our projects have become BREEAM rated schemes and include innovative measures such as green roofs.
Reducing waste and pollution
Our commitment is to reduce waste and ensure there are no pollution incidents on any of our sites. We signed up to the Waste Resource and Action Programme’s ‘Halving Waste to Landfill Commitment’ and ‘Built Environment Commitment’, initiatives to deliver a resource-efficient, low carbon built environment which supports the Government’s Construction 2025 Strategy.
Energy and climate
We work hard to minimise our carbon footprint and help clients make use of energy-saving design and technology. Through our corporate Carbon Management Plan we manage our own energy use and carbon emission and we offer end-to-end carbon efficiency services for clients. This includes low carbon building design and material specifications, integration of renewable energy and carbon emissions minimisation.
Key targets for 2019:
Waste and pollution
To divert over 95% of waste from landfill and maintain a 100% record of zero pollution incidents.
Natural Resources
To identify and maximise opportunities to minimise the procurement of raw materials.
Energy & Climate
We will reduce the energy consumption in our corporate business operations by 5% each year.
