Royal Hallamshire theatre refurbishment

Work to refurbish operating theatres 5-8 on Floor A of the Royal Hallamshire Hospital was successfully completed, with a further contract currently underway, secured under the Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (STHFT) framework.

The project is the third phase of development in Royal Hallamshire's scheme to upgrade its 40-year-old operating thatres, to create cutting edge new facilities which are at the forefront of UK hospitals.

The project involved complex logistical challenges, including use of a crane to lift plant works onto the hospital roof so the hospital could remain operational. The site team worked hard to safeguard staff and patients, and ensure operations could continue in theatres surrounding the project.

Phase 4 works include refurbishment of further operating theatres 9-12 on Floor A and the installation of state-of-the-art facilities fitted with innovative technology. This, combined with additional upgrades to the Floor A corridor, will create an environment that will further facilitate the life-saving work at the hospital.

The scheme will be completed in Autumn 2020 and is the fourth project for Royal Hallamshire Hospital, having previously completed a variety of other projects under the STHFT framework across the estate.
