Creating a new commercial heart in South Yorkshire

The Fox Valley retail project is a master redevelopment of the former 28-acre Outokumpu steelworks site in Stocksbridge, which brings a new commercial heart to the area, creating up to 900 jobs in the community.

The project began with the demolition of existing buildings, followed by remediation works and the construction of new warehouse facilities. Several existing buildings were also converted into office spaces and new infrastructure works added. The retail area consists of 32 units, cafe and restaurant facilities, with a car park and fountain.

Henry Boot has been exemplary in their approach from early contractor involvement through the planning stage, sequence and phasing of the work. They have added value to the project through build ability, redesign and time management.

Work experience students and trainees were hosted throughout the project, with the team's community involvement reflected in the positive feedback received from local residents and businesses. Joanna Lumley OBE officially opened the development at a ceremony which drew thousands of people together to celebrate the vibrant new town centre.

It’s great to see such a fantastic development where women are really part of the team and a company which is really committed to improving its diversity.
