A highly successful project to extend and improve facilities at Asterdale Primary School, working in partnership with Derby City Council.
Designed to allow public access and provide integrated early learning for children between 0-5 years, the new extended Children's Centre strengthens the vital link between schools and the local community by providing a range of facilities and services, including child care provision and access to Job Centre professionals, Community Police and the Citizens Advice Bureau. Completed to an very high standard, the new facilities had zero defects at the point of handover.
Henry Boot Construction is a very helpful and professional contractor. They formed good working relationships with our school and stakeholders. They carried out any requests that were made in a friendly and efficient manner.

Working parents can use the Children's Centre with its extended facilities, providing a vital link between schools and the community for those who may be nervous of other institutions.
During construction, temporary classrooms were created during term time to minimise disruption to schoolchildren and parents. Close liaison with the client, agencies and local stakeholders ensured timely completion of adjacent drainage works.
A number of environmental elements were incorporated into the design:
- A green roof system which retains heat in winter and keeps the building cool in summer
- Sustainable timber products used throughout
- Curved green roof with sedum planting
