Year 7 students experience their first taste of careers

Last month, Trainee Technician Joe Briggs attended Astrea Academy Sheffield to take part in a ‘What’s My Line’ style career event to showcase different job roles to students.

The idea came from the old TV show, where celebrity guests would ask questions to members of the public to guess their job. Joe joined other volunteers to see if Year 7 students could guess his role in construction. The students were encouraged to ask a wide variety of questions to gain an insight into each person’s career. The session was Astrea Academy’s first big careers event and received great feedback from staff and students.

I have had great feedback from pupils already this week and they have discussed that not only did they really enjoy the experience, but they learned a lot from it too. For most children it is the first time they have had the opportunity to quiz people about their profession, so the experience was invaluable.
