Works start on our second major Heart of the City build

Construction work has begun on the Kangaroo Works, our second major project secured under the Heart of the City scheme.

The design and build project has been commissioned by JV partners Angelo Gordon and Ridgeback Group and will see the creation of 365 high-quality residential apartments and five commercial units in Sheffield city centre.

With a peak of 14 storeys, the block has a unique brick façade supporting the industrial heritage of the original Kangaroo Works site, which the development now stands on. A central courtyard has been developed, with landscaping and a sustainable rain garden.

Tony Shaw, Director said: "It is great to see our work starting on the site. We have significant expertise in delivering residential-led urban development projects, and we are committed to creating environmentally-friendly buildings where people can live and thrive. As a major local employer, we will deliver life-changing social value outputs through our local supply chain, subcontractor orders with local businesses and site-specific employment and training initiatives."

Sustainability is a key part of the regeneration project, which is designed by Whittam Cox Architects, with plans for the building to be connected to Sheffield's District heating network, representing 75% of the energy generated from a low carbon source. There will be four electric vehicle charging points provided for public use.

Kangaroo Works is now undergoing an exciting phase in its development and we look forward to working with Henry Boot to deliver a key residential site within the Heart of the City masterplan.

Kangaroo Works is due to be completed in early 2023 and is one of two significant projects Henry Boot Construction is currently building under the Heart of the City scheme. The Cambridge Street Collective and Elshaw House are also located close by.
