Work experience at The Glass Works

Our latest work experience student, Liam Longford, spent last week working with the site team at The Glass Works in Barnsley.

Liam is about to start sixth form at King Edwards VII school and has an interest in engineering with hopes to pursue this in the future. So, for much of his week with Henry Boot Liam shadowed Project Engineer Paul Cheung and Trainee Engineer Alex Green, to gain an insight into the industry and the role of an engineer on a live site.

Throughout the week, Liam was shown the general duties of a site engineer, including site and office work. He spent time on site and in the site cabins learning about health and safety, reviewed plans for upcoming works at the MET Centre and was introduced to our quality assurance system. Liam also had the opportunity to see the public realm works and used equipment to check the ground surface was flat prior to a concrete pour.

Working with Henry Boot gave me a practical experience of working on site as an engineer. Paul and Alex were very accommodating whilst teaching me the basics of the role and I would like to thank them for making this experience very enjoyable and interesting for me. It has made me look forward to the future and my aim of becoming an engineer.
