Trainee Business and Marketing Assistant Bradley Longford has been appointed as chair of the Young Apprentice Ambassador Network (YAAN) for Yorkshire & Humber (YH), so we sat down with him to find out more.

Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship?

Since starting college, I knew I wanted to work in marketing, however, finding a full-time role was challenging and I wasn’t keen on the idea of full-time further education. The idea of ‘learn as you earn’ through an apprenticeship really appealed to me and suits my style of learning. I’m now in the first year of a Professional Practice in Management degree course which teaches me about the operations of a business. Although the course can be challenging, having to learn something new in under a week and write an assignment on it, you get a great sense of fulfilment after the module is completed.

What is the purpose of the YAAN?

The network is made up of current and past apprentices aged 18–26;  its members aim to inspire and engage  future apprentice through a variety of activities. Since joining Henry Boot Construction in 2017, I have promoted apprenticeships at school visits and other career events, helping students consider the variety of future careers available in our industry.

What responsibilities will you have in your new role as chair of the regional YAAN?

I will be leading the regional network of young apprentice ambassador. This will include chairing regional meeting and working closely with other ambassadors including employer ambassadors. In particular I will be managing social media for the region and plan to increase our profile online. My first aim is to grow the network and develop the range and scope of activity we deliver.

We are delighted that Bradley has been appointed to the role of regional chair of the YH YAAN. He is passionate about Apprenticeships, an articulate and confident communicator with ambition for the network in YH. We are looking forward to working with Bradley.
