The Glass Works site team celebrate Joe Kirk’s 21st birthday

Joe at a career event in Barnsley

Joe Kirk, administrator on Phase 1 of The Glass Works project celebrated his 21st birthday on the 12 October and the site team joined in his celebrations by presenting Joe with a birthday cake and presents.

Earlier this year, Henry Boot Construction welcomed sponsored intern, Joe to the team. Joe was carrying out a receptionist role as part of his internship at The Civic office.

Joe started his internship together with his job coach, but after a few short weeks, the coach was no longer needed as Joe was more than able to carry out his administrative duties on his own, settling in well with the Henry Boot team at The Civic office.

Henry Boot were so pleased with Joe’s progress, he was offered an admin position for the duration of the project. By giving Joe this opportunity, his confidence and skills level has increased and we are very proud of his achievements.

Prior to his internship, Joe had previously been on the employability course at Barnsley College whilst looking for a job. The course aims to support people to gain the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to succeed in a range of industry sectors.

Joe has proved to be a great asset to the Barnsley team. He settled into the role straight away and is growing in confidence every day. Joe is a real success story to the Supported Internship Programme.
