Taking a look at The Glass Works 3D model

The view from Library @ The Lightbox looking towards Barnsley Markets and Cineworld

3D models of The Glass Works have been created by IBI Group and allow viewers to experience what the completed project will look like from three different vantage points.

The three locations – outside the Library @ The Lightbox, at the entrance to Barnsley Markets on May Day Green, and on Midland Street outside the transport interchange – provide a great view of the project from different angles.

You can access the 3D views from a desktop, mobile or tablet here:

Using technology like this is a fantastic way to provide the community an insight into the future of their town. We believe it’s important to keep them informed and the 3D models do a great job at conveyeying the look and feel of the finished scheme, allowing us to share our vision in advance of its highly anticipated completion.

Mike Richardson, IBI Group's Project Director

Funded by Barnsley Council, The Glass Works project includes 25 new retail units, a 13-screen Cineworld, Superbowl UK, seven restaurants and cafes, a new public square and multi-storey car park. The first phase, which included the brand-new Library @ The Lightbox and the newly refurbished Barnsley Markets, completed in 2019.

The transformative scheme has also attracted a number of high-profile retail and food & beverage brands – including Next, TK Maxx, Nando’s and Muffin Break. Whilst Deichmann, JD Sports, Coffee Boy and Falco Lounge are already open and trading.

The entire project is expected to be completed in September 2021 and will provide a vibrant town centre that is welcoming, safe and accessible for all. Professional teams include Queensberry and Turner & Townsend.
