Students in Sheffield and Barnsley prepare for the world of work

Mock interviews at Netherwood Secondary School
Mock interviews at Netherwood Secondary School

Recently, Adeana Raper has given several industry talks and mock interviews to students in schools across Sheffield and Barnsley to promote construction in the region.

As Employment and Skills Manager, Adeana works closely with selected schools to help prepare students for the world of work. By helping undertake mock interviews in secondary schools, Adeana prepare students for future job interviews. These events are popular amongst the students, who gain a valuable experience and Adeana always receives positive feedback.

Thank you for taking the time to interview me yesterday, I found it very insightful to get a first-hand account of the industry and what it’s like to work in it. I find the work you continually do to alleviate gender stereotypes within the construction industry inspiring and I hope to be one of the next generation of women working in the industry!

Providing industry talks gives students a true insight into construction from an experienced industry professional and Adeana answers questions from students looking to pursuing a career in the industry. At primary schools, Adeana teaches children about the business and the construction industry in the hope they take an interest and go on to study relevant subjects at secondary school. Adeana’s latest school visit was to Carrfield Primary School, where she spoke to Year Five students as they completed relevant activities.

Many thanks for attending and supporting Barnsley Academy last Thursday on our Mock Interviews Day. I hope that you enjoyed meeting our students, and found the experience rewarding in some way. The students have thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and haven't stopped talking about it since!
