Spreading festive cheer in Barnsley

Last Wednesday Barnsley joined the festive fun by switching on their Christmas lights.

Market mascot Veggie and the Mayor of Barnsley Cllr Steve Green were joined by Father Christmas for the markets light switch on event, followed by the launch of the four day Christmas extravaganza, Barnsley Bright Nights festival which included a show-stopping digital projection onto the historic town hall and firework display.

Our site team dressed up as elves to help Santa give out treats to children. Catherine Spooner, Lydia McGuinness and work experience student Billy Barraclough all dressed up, and our Senior General Foreman Mick Foster even turned into a snowman to surprise local children with sweets.

Wednesday also saw the opening of the market cafés, with lookalike Gordon Ramsey and Veggie joining The Mayor of Barnsley in an official opening ceremony. Once again, the Mayor rang the traditional Market Bell to mark yet another key milestone in The Glass Works retail and leisure scheme.
