Raising the roof in the May Day Market

Continuing our support for local charities in Barnsley, on 13 October we helped the community raise money for Barnsley Hospice and Barnsley Independent Alzheimer’s and Dementia Support by sponsoring a karaoke event held in the May Day Green Market.

With a great atmosphere, over forty contestants competed to win a cash prize. A raffle was also held, with Henry Boot Construction sponsoring the £100 cash prize, ensuring all the money raised from ticket sales could go directly to the charities. Mayor of Barnsley Councillor Steve Green even showed off his own vocals at the event, creating a real buzz in the market.

The event raised £700 for the charities, with the market trader and councillor Wayne Johnson, commenting, “It was absolutely brilliant. There was a really positive atmosphere to the market, and I think people really enjoyed it. It was just something a bit different. We had hoped to raise a few quid, but we never expected to raise that much it was fantastic.”
