Inspiring local children through the Takeover Challenge

We participated in Barnsley’s eleventh Takeover Challenge, which helps encourage children and young people to take over adult roles for a day.

On Friday 23 November, children across Barnsley stepped into a wide range of adult jobs, giving them the chance to have their views heard, have fun and be inspired.

At The Glass Works, young person Callum took over Catherine Spooner and Ryan O’Loughlin’s roles, getting stuck in with a project planning meeting, working on the virtual reality model and planning the following week's work. Callum toured the site with Catherine and Senior Site Manager Jerry Rawson, viewing the demolition area and speaking to traders in the new markets in The Glass Works. The team also visited the May Day Green markets and Market Parade which are currently being stripped out.

The Takeover Challenge is organised across England and locally the event is an excellent opportunity to promote participation in line with Barnsley’s Pledge to Children in Care and Care Leavers. It also ensures children have a right to have their views seriously considered regarding decisions that affect their own lives.
