Helping young people in Barnsley enjoy the festive period

We have continued our support for Horizon Community College’s food parcels and also a steering group that provide Christmas day packages for young care leavers in Barnsley.

Earlier in the year we donated £1,000 to the college who are supporting local families with emergency food parcels. The provision of these support packages has continued so we have recently donated another £500 to the cause.

Tom West, Student Wellbeing Officer at Horizon Community College said: “I would like to thank Henry Boot for their contribution to our food packages going to our most vulnerable families. It is a project that we could not do without organisations like yours supporting us. We would like to thank you once again for the kind donations. Your support will help feed over 60 families over the festive period.”

Elsewhere in Barnsley, we have supported a local steering group once more with the donation of £1,000. Every year the group provides a special Christmas Day to care leavers in the area. Ordinarily this is through gift giving and a wonderful Christmas meal but like many other events it has had to adapt through the pandemic.

For the second year running the group have worked hard to replicate this with the delivery of a meal and other items to brighten the care leavers’ day.

Angela Fawcett, Head of Safeguarding, Barnsley CCG said: “Just wanted to say thank you for your amazing continued to support to our project The Christmas Dinner for Care Leavers - Barnsley. Without your generous donation and the support of others we wouldn’t be able to achieve our aim of making Christmas day as special as possible for those care leavers that have nobody to spend their day with.

Normally we put on an amazing dinner and day of celebration for the young people, due to restrictions this year and last, this has not been possible. However, undeterred we are delivering Christmas dinner and other goodies and spending time with them as individuals and hopefully making their day a little brighter.”

Ryan O’Loughlin, Director added: “It is a pleasure to continue our support of Horizon Community College’s food packages and the steering group providing Christmas meals.

Working nearby on The Glass Works, we have always been committed to helping out heart-warming local initiatives such as these, and we are proud to contribute to these provisions that help many young people enjoy the festive period.”
