Getting job ready at Kirk Balk Academy, Barnsley

Communications Officer Catherine Spooner recently supported students at Kirk Balk Academy, Barnsley to practise their first interviews.

The event was held at the school on 27 September and took Year 10 students through the process of applying for a fictitious employment role. Students completed application forms and were interviewed for roles by business partners from the local area, with feedback on their performance afterwards.

By involving employers from the local area, it provided the students with a great opportunity to develop their skills and, gave them a greater understanding of the process they need to follow.

On behalf of the Academy and more importantly our students, I want to thank you all again for your support with our Year 10 Mock Interviews. It really was an invaluable experience for the students.

Angela Deakin, Careers Co-ordinator, Kirk Balk Academy

I was very impressed with the students who I interviewed. Most had a very clear idea of the path which they wish to take to achieve their goals and many are aiming high – there was a budding physicist, banker, beautician, builder and accountant. Some hoped to go via the apprenticeship route, with many still aiming to go to university. It will be very interesting to return for the second round of interviews.
