Exceptional Health and Safety results

Last year we achieved the best Health and Safety record in a number of years, after the introduction of the ‘Zero Harm’ campaign. Launched in early 2017, the campaign has proved very effective and has helped us to achieve another strong Health, Safety and Environmental Performance, particularly with our Accident Incident Rate (AIR) and Accident Frequency Rate (AFR).

The AIR has reduced to 100, a great achievement, particularly when compared to the latest average AIR statistic published by the HSE for all industries, which is 298. The AFR has also reduced to 0.05. When comparing the company AIR against the industry average using the Constructing Excellence KPI, the 2017 performance equates to a score of 100%.

In relation to directly employed staff and operatives, we have maintained an AIR and AFR of zero, as well as having zero environmental pollution incidents. Despite these results, we cannot be complacent with our Accident Statistics and strive to achieve zero reportable accidents and environmental pollution incidents.

Mock Emergency Incident

To ensure the company processes and procedures are robust, last year a Mock Emergency Incident was carried out at the Leeds Girls High School refurbishment project in Leeds. The mock incident was executed by law firm CMS LLP, in the presence of client Stonebridge Homes, to test how robust the site team’s management systems are in an emergency. The incident demonstrated a good awareness of company procedures and afterwards, a debrief was held to discuss the outcome and learning points.
