Enhancing the University of Sheffield’s public concourse

Our work to refurbish the University of Sheffield’s concourse is now complete, creating a flexible civic space that connects the Students' Union with the Alfred Denny building. The new concourse is designed to be ideal for landmark events, such as graduation and open days.

Removal and replacement of paving, bollards, railings and walls has given the concourse a new lease of life. As one of the most used areas of campus, the design also considered the flow of pedestrians and bikes. New iconic lighting also makes the area safe and secure for those passing through at night.

Green areas have been retained and redesigned throughout and new terraced areas include hedges, flowers, grassed areas and small trees. Where possible, trees and plants which had to be removed during the works have been re-used across campus.

Henry Boot Construction are delighted to have been involved in the delivery of the new attactive open space, making good use of the concourse for staff and students of the University of Sheffield for many years to come.
