Following the start of the new academic year, we’ve been busy taking part in career events in schools across Yorkshire. Here are a couple of our highlights so far this term.

Trainee Business and Marketing Assistant Bradley took part in a career panel at Wingfield Academy. The panel was made up of seven volunteers from different employment backgrounds who answered questions from students based on four topics: career journey and job role, motivation, growth sectors and entry-level routes into work.

Employment and Skills Manager Adeana also took part in a Business Showcase event at Highgate Primary Academy in Rotherham, where Year 5 children were challenged to build a tower in teams using straws and connectors. Adeana discussed the different roles available in construction to inform the students of future opportunities and help raise their aspirations.

As always it's a pleasure to speak to young people, to talk about their hopes and aspirations and, also to promote the varied careers available in the Construction industry. Students and schools are beginning to show greater interest in apprenticeships and, more importantly, parents are beginning to realise that you can have a professional career through the apprenticeship system.

We learnt about construction, volunteering and accounting work. I also learnt that you can do anything you set your mind to.
