Building the future at the Liverpool City Region Skills Show

Our Manchester team helped educate students at the Liverpool City Region Skills Show on Monday 18 June.

The Skills Show saw over 100 organisations gather at the Exhibition Centre in Liverpool and aimed to teach students about the wide range of careers and apprenticeship opportunities available, through a mixture of hands-on activities, interactions with employers and career-related seminars.

Kelly Faulkner from Henry Boot Construction joined with other contractors on the North West Construction Hub and set students a challenge to build a steady structure out of giant Meccano in just five minutes. The students were encouraged to be creative, resulting in a wide range of solutions including stools, bridges and cranes. After they had created their structures, students were given information about real job roles, based on their favourite part of the activity.

It was great to see a variety of students from different backgrounds complete the giant Meccano challenge and it was fascinating to observe the individual strategies and approaches used to reach the goal.

The show featured several ‘Have a Go’ stands, hosted by professionals across a range of industries and gave students a chance to try out specific career-related skills.

The event was organised by the Liverpool City Region Apprenticeship Hub, who aim to increase the awareness, number and quality of apprenticeships available to regional residents by supporting and coordinating activities, making apprenticeships work for businesses and individuals.
