Construction Centre Extension & Alterations, Barnsley
Barnsley College
Key Features
- Live college environment
- Close working with Network Rail
- Sectional handover
Multi-million pound extension and alteration programme to existing Construction Centre building at Barnsley College.
Works included a two storey steel frame extension with sheet piling support, the creation of new workshop and teaching facilities, and the demolition of separate garage buildings within the grounds.
The site was adjacent to a busy railway line - all works had to be carefully designed and pre-approved by Network Rail before they could take place – close working with all stakeholders ensured this complicated process did not affect the construction process.
Whilst the majority of the works were carried out in the holiday period, sectional handover was achieved in some areas to allow student occupation for the start of the academic year.
"A very good relationship between site and college staff is very evident."
Mike Brook, Considerate Constructors Scheme
